“Dissolving Illusions” is one of my favorite books on vaccines, so I was honored to write the foreword for this 10th anniversary edition. Not too long ago, lethal infections were feared in the Western world. Since that time, many countries have undergone a transformation from disease cesspools to much safer, healthier habitats. Starting in the mid-1800s, there was a steady drop in deaths from all infectious diseases, decreasing to relatively minor levels by the early 1900s.The book also includes many photographs extracted from numerous historic sources. Most of the photographs are presented with the exact captions that appeared in the original work. Throughout the book, bold text indicates something that we think warrants special attention.
