It's considered to be considerably better than the current Remington 870 Express as far as steel used, reliability, etc. Google it. I debated over whether to go with the Maverick 88 or H&R, and after doing a lot of reading, I decided to get the H&R. Bought a higher end Remington 870 in 2008. You could watch it rust in front of your eyes and I can't count the # of FTE failures it had. Sold it in 2010, bought an older police turn in 870, never been happier. Own a Mossberg 500 as well, that tang mounted safety is fantastic for a lefty/overall a better design in my book.So it may be worth considering getting the Mav88 and spending the extra money on a better stock. It's reliable and smoothed our nice with some synthetic motor oil and lots of shooting. Zero issues after cases and cases of buck, slugs and birdshot.
